In the summer of 2020, I was blessed with the opportunity to work as an intern for my uncle’s graphic design company. I learned how to use a Cricut machine, weed out designs from the printed material as well as operate a heat press. After building a Yu-Gi-Oh deck in my free time, I thought it would be a cool idea to have apparel to go with the deck itself. These designs are not my own, I simplified the main monster, Number 39 Utopia. The rights of
Yu-Gi-Oh belongs to Konami and I did not profit from this project, nor do I plan to aside from this specific piece that shows the skills I learned during my internship.

Challenges

The challenges I faced for this piece were learning how to pick up software quickly and learning how to simplify certain images while maintaining their iconic nature.

Outcome

I would not say I have mastered a Cricut machine, however, I have a great amount of familiarity with it and the weeding out of designs. When it comes to the simplification of icons, I learned to take a deep breath and keep calm, that is when the ideas flow.
